Praises and commendations have trailed the achievement records of the NNPC/Seplat JV EMOIMEE Host Community Development Trust in Akwa Ibom State.
Stakeholders who spoke at the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Trust, but held on 5 November 2025, were unanimous saying that EMOIMEE has become a reference point for host community trusts in the country.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, NNPC, Engr. Oluwaseyi O. Omotowa, lauded EMOIMEE Trust for its commendable progress in implementing impactful programmes in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and social infrastructure.
He noted that the Trust has continued to “demonstrate focus, transparency, and resilience in carrying out its mandate”, adding, “these efforts have directly improved the lives of many individuals and families across the seven host local government areas.”
Omotowa, who was represented by the Head of Business Services in NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, Mrs Nkechi Aneadobe, in company of Mrs Bunmi Lawson, Manager Stakeholders Relations; and Jenifer Ezeoke, Content & Development Department, praised the EMOIMEE Board of Trustees, Management Committee, and stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring the Trust remains on course.

He emphasised the importance of accountability, record-keeping, and proper documentation, stating that “transparency and accountability are the hallmarks of sustainable success.”
Encouraging the Trust to focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and measurable impact, Engr. Omotowa reiterated NUIMS’ commitment to the progress of the Trust, stating, “We view the EMOIMEE Trust as a vital instrument for promoting stability, inclusion, and long-term development in our host communities.”
He congratulated the Board, management, and host communities on the successful convening of the 2nd AGM and encouraged all stakeholders to continue working together in the spirit of partnership and transparency.
The General Manager, Public and Government Affairs of Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU), Mr Ogechukwu Udeagha, remarked that the ongoing projects and programmes undertaken by EMOIMEE shows that the Trust was doing a fantastic job.
He noted that EMOIMEE programmes, having been nominated, designed and implemented by the community people, go to show the Trust as being on the driver’s seat to drive the wheel of development for the overall interest of the community.

Udeagha, who described the Host Community Trust as a game-changing mechanism, noted that EMOIMEE has worked hard to earn its place as a reference point among the 156 Trusts existing across the country.
He urged EMOIMEE stakeholders at all levels, together with community partners, consultants and contractors, to work together and ensure standard job delivery for the betterment of the Nigerian society.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), through its team lead at the event and Head Host Community Communication Media Relations, Mrs. Olaide Shonola, has said that the Trust has safely positioned itself as topmost among the 156 Trusts, having carried out more of the 512 projects across the country.
Urging EMOIMEE to maintain its status by upholding the strong values and ethics of its operations, Mrs Shonola, who was accompanied by Mr. Etim Etukudu, Field Coordinator, Eket Office; and Ms Milta Ibrahim, Regulatory Officer II, Host Community, called on stakeholders to rally round the Trust to enable it serve the people satisfactorily.
She gave the assurance that the regulatory body has a duty to remain unwavering in its strategic commitment to monitoring the records of EMOIMEE’s operations for the sole interest of serving the people better.

On his part, the chairman, Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Senator Ekong Sampson, who delivered a goodwill message at the event, called for collaboration among partners to strengthen operational policies and ensure seamless progress.
The Acting chairman of the Trust, Engr Clinton Akpan, listed 210 projects undertaken by the Trust across the seven host communities of Eastern Obolo, Mbo, Onna, Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Eket and Esit Eket.
According to him, EMOIMEE has given 4,118 scholarships and bursaries, 293 scholarships to secondary school students, trained 140 youths in ICT, trained 274 in skills relating to the maritime industry, fashion design, baking and confectioneries, among others.
He noted that EMOIMEE has donated motorcycles, tricycles and minibuses to 493 people for their transport related businesses; donated 30 motorcycles for vigilanté with stipends for security support, carried out eight medical outreaches, three ambulances for primary health centres and supplies of drugs and medical equipment to 12 medical facilities.
Engr Akpan further listed the donation of 60 outboard engines, fishing boats and other equipment to fishermen, repair of 13 electricity transformers for power restoration in many communities, purchase of 63,000 improved oil palm seedlings for distribution and cultivation across communities.

He added that other projects and programmes included provision of solar powered boreholes, provision of cash empowerment for 843 businesses, rehabilitation of health centre across the communities, installation of solar powered street lights, grading of over 60 kilometres of internal roads and construction of culverts across communities.
Akpan submitted, “the incorporation of the Trust helps in enhancing peace, accelerating development and promoting prosperity in the seven local government areas,” and gave the assurance that EMOIMEE would be more “intentional and committed to providing the much needed programmes and projects with a view to facilitating sustainable development of our communities.”
Goodwill messages were given by the paramount ruler of ONNA, Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang; paramount ruler of Eastern Obolo, Uboon Harry J. Etetor IX; paramount ruler of Eket LGA, Abong E. C. D. Abia; editor-in chief of WatchmanPost, Dr Sunday Antai, and many others, who all lauded the efforts of EMOIMEE, but as well identified gaps that should be closed in order to serve the people better.
Other EMOIMEE board members present at the event included Engr Asuquo Inuikim, Mbo; Emmanuel Justus Ntuk, Ikot Abasi; Sir Aboh Uduyok, and Mrs Lilly Evans, Eastern Obolo; Engr Udo Sunday Obot, Mkpat Enin; Hon. Bassey Dan-Abia, Esit Eket; Commodore Charles Usoh, Eket.

Also at the AGM was the Head, Management Committee (MC) of EMOIMEE, Chief Ulo Ante Uye; MC member, Mbo, Chief Edet E. Okon; Head of Advisory Committee, Mr Nsudo Nsudo; Sir Ita Ntekim of Mbo Advisory Committee, among others.
The AGM witnessed the formal send-off ceremony in honour of the pioneer BoT chairman, Senator Helen Esuene.
