Political structure struggle: Gov Eno dissolves boards, commissions
By Ernest Udoh-Robert
In a move perceived by political watchers to be aimed at weeding out disloyal members of his government and gaining full control of governance and political structures of the state, the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced the dissolution of all boards and commissions in the state.
This was made public in a press statement dated 2nd October 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
The governor cited Section 6 of the State Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law 2023, as granting him the power to take the action.
The statement directed the affected board chairmen and members to immediately hand over all properties in their possession to the highest ranking civil servants in their boards and commissions.
The statement in part reads: “His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State has directed all statutory/non statutory boards/Commissions are hereby dissolved with effect from 3rd October 2025.”
The governor in the statement thanked the board chairmen and members for their contributions towards the realisation of his ARISE AGENDA, and wished them well in their future endeavours.
It would be recalled that the governor during the 38th anniversary of the state in Uyo, had raised the alarm about some unnamed persons fighting to wrestle from him the political structure in the state.
He had said that he was aware of some government appointees having nocturnal meetings and planning to oust him come 2027. He had then bragged that they would not succeed.
This latest move by the governor may be aimed at forestalling any further challenge to his grip on power.
