Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has expressed strong belief in local government autonomy, saying that it encourages healthy competition amongst Local Government Councils.

Eno mentioned this during a media dialogue organised as one of the programmes marking the second anniversary of his administration.

Eno also underscored the importance of agriculture, noting that with the Home Garden Project of his administration, prices of food would soon come down, especially of crops grown here in the state.

On rural development , the governor mentioned that the state was doing well in rural communities with roads being opened and model schools being inaugurated in communities that need them.

Eno frowned at lack of computer teachers in public schools and directed the Ministry of Education to employ computer teachers in all the 31 Local Government Areas to teach computer in public schools.

On Ibom Deep Sea Port, the governor who said that no state on its own could build such a sea port, however, informed that the state has won the support of the Federal Government to develop its seaport.

On Ibom power, Eno said that the infrastructure was facing issues that calls for close scrutiny, pleading for time for all the issues to be resolved.

He challenged youths of Akwa Ibom to develop themselves and stop waiting for government to do everything for them.

The governor called on Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) to brace up for the kind of station that he would build, which he said would be top class and privately run for profit as other private stations are doing. He promised to fence the AKBC premises.

On the wrong reportage on the state allocation from the federation accounts, the governor said that the report has cost him a lot with neighbouring states accusing the state of collecting excessive revenue, which has led them making demands for oil wells.

He explained that the N200 billion so reported was money brought forward from other months which the reporter wrongly quoted as monthly allocation.

He highlighted the need for Akwa Ibom people to market the state for tourism purposes.
