NDDC Games: Governor Eno receives Torch

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially received the torch for the second edition of the NDDC-sponsored sports competition.

During the ceremony, the Governor assured stakeholders that the Akwa Ibom contingent would compete fairly and healthily, with a goal to “haul in medals” and make the state proud.

Represented by the Commissioner of Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, the Governor praised the organisers, Dunamis-Icon Limited, and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for their commitment to the event.

He noted that the competition provides a vital platform for young, budding athletes from the nine Niger Delta states to thrive.

The theme for this year’s edition is “Beyond Oil: Harnessing Talent.”

Expressing his delight in receiving the torch on behalf of the people of Akwa Ibom, Governor Eno enjoined fellow regional governors to embrace the games to foster sports development across the Niger Delta and beyond.

The Games consultant, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, commended Governor Eno for his transparency and dedication to sports.

He assured the public that all necessary modalities are in place to ensure a fair and hitch-free competition.

Adding to this, the Chairman of the Liaison Committee and Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, expressed deep appreciation for the NDDC’s initiative, describing the event as a significant way of giving back to society.

The second edition of the NDDC Games is scheduled to kick off on 20 February and will run through February 27, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State.
