CAF to decide on 2026 WAFCON hosting rights next week

Following growing uncertainty regarding Morocco’s hosting of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to deliver a definitive verdict next week. The governing body will decide whether to proceed with the tournament in Morocco, postpone it, or relocate the event entirely.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has reportedly approached CAF to request a postponement. This request stems from a congested sporting calendar, including domestic league commitments and preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The CAF Executive Committee is meeting to weigh three main options:
Maintaining the current schedule in Morocco; approving a postponement as requested by the hosts, or stripping Morocco of its hosting rights and moving the tournament elsewhere.

Speculation has intensified following reports that Morocco might withdraw, with South Africa reportedly on standby to step in. While South African officials have expressed readiness to host, they have also clarified that a formal decision from CAF is still pending.

An official announcement by the end of next week is expected to provide much-needed clarity for participating nations and fans alike.
