Tinubu pledges full tenure salaries to armed forces support fund
ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has announced that he will donate his entire salary earned since assuming office to a newly established special fund dedicated to the members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and their families.
In a personally signed statement released, Sunday, the president noted that the gesture served as a centerpiece of his 74th birthday, intended to honor the immense sacrifices of military personnel.
A legacy of service
“On my 74th birthday, I choose to celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces,” the president stated.
“I have directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for a fund dedicated to those who serve, those wounded in the line of duty, and the families of those who have paid the ultimate price,” reports
Tinubu clarified that this fund was designed as a direct support mechanism, functioning independently of existing military insurance and welfare schemes.
Seed funding and direct support
“As a personal commitment, all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding,” the President added.
“This fund will provide direct assistance to those who have lost limbs, as well as the widows, widowers, and children of those who laid down their lives in service to our dear country.” He did not say how he would survive without a salary.
A Call to national action
President Tinubu concluded the announcement with a call for national solidarity, urging leaders and the private sector to contribute to the cause.
”I call on our governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and all well-wishers to support this initiative. Details of the account will be made available in due course. We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace. This is not charity; it is duty. And we will fulfill it.”
