Citing internal crises within their original political parties, several members of the House of Representatives have announced their defection to rival platforms.
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, officially announced the movements during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) emerged as a primary beneficiary, gaining 10 new members.
Major Shifts to the ADC
Leading the wave to the ADC is George Ozodinobi, the Deputy Minority Whip representing the Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia Federal Constituency of Anambra State, who defected from the Labour Party (LP).
Other notable defectors to the ADC include:
Harris Okonkwo (Anambra) and Seyi Sowunmi (Lagos) — both formerly of the LP.
Mustapha Abdullahi (Kaduna) — formerly of the APC.
Bashir Gorau (Sokoto) and George Olawande (Lagos) — moving from the PDP and LP respectively.
Yaya Bauchi Tongo (Gombe), Mani Maishinko Katami (Sokoto), Abdussamad Dasuki (Sokoto), and Umar Yusuf Yabo (Sokoto) — all formerly of the PDP.
Strengthening the APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also bolstered its numbers with several high-profile entries from the PDP:
Jaafaru Yakubu and Sadiq Abbas Tafida (Taraba State).
Bello Shinkafi (Zamfara State).
Ibrahim Mohammed (Kebbi State).
Mohammed Bassi (Adamawa State).
Other notable movements
The reshuffling across the floor extended to several other parties:
LP Gains: Philip Agbese (Benue) moved from the APC to the LP.
APP/PDP Swaps: Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu (Imo) left the PDP for the Action Peoples Party (APP), while Nwogu Mathew (Imo) joined the LP from the APP.
