The Mbo chapter of the NNPC/Seplat JV EMOIMEE Host Community Development Trust has briefed contractors who are set to handle various community projects on the modalities for timely and quality delivery.
The meeting which held at the Miami Escape Event Centre, Oron recently brought together contractors who emerged successful bidders for the projects.
Speaking at the event, the board member representing Mbo, Engr. Asuquo Inuikim, urged the contractors to deploy judiciously the first milestone payment of 40 per cent to enable them achieve substantial progress on their respective projects.
Inuikim said quality workmanship and timely completion of the projects would enhance the contractors’ reliability and improve their chances of being considered for future contracts.
He said, “The 40 per cent first milestone payment should be judiciously deployed to enable you to achieve a substantial level of delivery within the stipulated period.
“Quality and timely delivery are very important because they guarantee reliability and future consideration for the award of contracts.
“We also encourage you to maintain uniformity in the building materials you use. For instance, where possible, roofing sheets should be sourced from the same supplier. You should work together, explore ways of reducing costs and seek assistance from the relevant quarters whenever necessary”, Sir Inuikim said.
He disclosed that the duration of the contracts was two months, urging the contractors to work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
The board member also advised the contractors to pay due respect to traditional and community leadership structures in the areas where the projects were located.
“It is important that you pay homage to the paramount rulers, the Community Development Associations, the Council of Chiefs and the youths. These are important stakeholders in the communities, and maintaining a good relationship with them will contribute to the smooth execution of your projects,” Inuikim added.
Also speaking, a member of the Advisory Committee, Chief Ita Ntekim, charged the contractors to demonstrate fidelity to the terms and conditions of their contracts by delivering quality projects in accordance with approved specifications.
Ntekim warned that contractors who failed to meet the required standards risked having their contracts revoked.
He said, “Every contractor must demonstrate fidelity to the contract modalities and ensure that the job delivered meets the required quality and specifications.
“We will not compromise standards. Where a contractor delivers a job that is adjudged to be below the approved standard, the contract may be revoked.”
The project consultant for Mbo EMOIMEE, Dr Samuel Ekung, also enlightened the contractors on the modalities required for the successful execution of the projects.
Ekung explained that his responsibility was to closely monitor the various projects and ensure strict compliance with standard procedures and approved specifications.
He urged the contractors to remain focused and seek clarification whenever they encountered difficulties during the execution of their projects.
He said, “My responsibility is to closely monitor all the contracts and ensure that standard procedures and specifications are duly followed.
“I urge you to remain focused and ask questions whenever necessary. Working together, we can deliver projects that meet acceptable standards.
“Quality delivery will not only benefit the communities but will also strengthen your professional records and enhance your chances of receiving recommendations for future engagements.”
Among the successful bidders who attended the briefing were Col. Joseph Eduoku, Prof. Okon Eminue, Crown Prince Chris Abasi Eyo, Sir Michael Essang and Hon. Samuel Ufuo, alongside other prominent sons and daughters of Mbo.
