Mbo EMOIMEE cuts deal with A’Ibom PHCDA

In furtherance of the quest to draw collaboration from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency to promote and improve upon its health related interventions in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the leadership of EMOIMEE Host Community Development Trust (HCDT), Mbo, has sought cooperation with the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA).

The trust made the move recently, when its leadership paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State PHCDA, Dr Eno Attah, at her office in Uyo.

Speaking during the meeting, the Mbo Board of Trustees Member, Sir Asuquo Inuikim, disclosed that the trust was remodelling five Primary Health Centres in Uda, Udesi, Ebughu, Enwang and Effiat.

He said the Effiat facility was being newly constructed because the community had previously operated its healthcare services within a school environment.

According to him, all five facilities are being provided with staff quarters, solar-powered water systems and solar street lighting to enhance security and improve the working environment.

Inuikim added that the trust was awaiting approvals for the release of funds to fully equip the facilities, after which they would be commissioned for use.

He also disclosed that EMOIMEE conducts an annual free medical workshop across the five centres, saying the interventions in 2024 and 2025 had addressed the health challenges of 12,355 persons.

He said the 2026 edition was expected to hold around October, subject to weather conditions, as the exercise would require five working days in each of the five centres.

“We shall seek your support during the medical workshop,” Inuikim said, stressing that EMOIMEE’s responsibility was to implement programmes and projects that promote social cohesion and development in Mbo.

He sought the agency’s support to ensure that the remodeled health centres were not only well managed but also developed into reference points for primary healthcare services.

Responding, Dr Attah said the PHCDA had a responsibility to monitor activities at primary health centres across the state, adding that the agency was already aware of some facilities being renovated by EMOIMEE.

She said the agency would now seek access to the facilities to assess them and identify areas requiring further attention.

Attah explained that facilities originating from the state government were covered by the agency’s monitoring responsibilities and would be periodically assessed for inclusion in quarterly administrative funding from both the state and federal governments.

She further explained that the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency provides Direct Facility Financing to primary health centres across the country.

The PHCDA boss welcomed the EMOIMEE delegation and assured the Trust of the agency’s technical support during its annual medical workshops.

Other officials of the State PHCDA at the meeting included the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr Aniedi David, and Director of Administration, Mrs Florence Eketete.

The EMOIMEE delegation also included its Project Consultant, Dr Samuel Ekung, and Joseph Atainyang.
