Weeks after its casual staff stand down over nonpayment of two years’ wages, hopes seem to be rising for the Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), the state’s electronic media organisation.
This is because the state government has struck a deal with a Dubai-based media consultant, LLC, to restructure the state broadcaster and make it a global player in its line of business.
To sign the pact on behalf of the government was the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who represented Governor Umo Eno.
“I want to welcome everyone to the signing ceremony of the agreement between Akwa Ibom State Government and mledia Guru Consultant, LLC, for the provision of consultancy, design, procurement, and installation of broadcast equipment for AKBC”, the governor said.
Eno expressed the optimism that on completion of the turnaround project, AKBC would be in a position to diligently project the state to the world.
The Director General of AKBC, Imaobong Udoh, commended Governor Umo Eno for keeping to his promise to rewrite the story of the AKBC for the better.
She assured that with the upgrade of her organisation, Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians would witness the best in broadcasting.
The Commissioner of Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, was among those who witnessed the ceremony, which took place at Government House, Uyo.
