AKSG upgrades college to education university, awaits 50 CNG buses delivery·

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that it has upgraded its College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom LGA to a university of education.

The state Commissioner of Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, made this known during the October 2025 edition of the government’s monthly press briefing held in Uyo, today.

Umanah explained that upgrading the school to a university was a welcome development as it will shorten the period spent by its students to earn a degree in education.

He disclosed that the state government was working out details of the transition with the relevant federal agencies.

The state government, according to Dr Umanah, has also placed order for 50 condensed natural gas (CNG) cars for enhanced public transportation in the state.

He said that while delivery of the cars was being awaited, route mapping for their use has been carried out, even as a feeder gas station for them was being built, and its terminus relocated.

The government spokesman told the press that the administration has now installed the needed lights and other equipment at the Victor Attah International Airport that has made night flights to and from the airport possible.

He informed that model farms have been added to the model primary schools built by the Umo Eno-led administration.

He added that the government has given approval for them release of N60bn to contractors handling various projects to ensure that they get their jobs done as the rains are receding.

Umanah said that the government has worked on 964 kms of roads, including rural ones and those inherited from past governments.

On his part, the Commissioner of Tourism and Culture, Dr Anieti Udofia, said that government has set up an Inter-Ministerial Steering to drive tourism in the state.

He announced that there will be a
tourism summit, 25 Feb 2026, in the state as part of the administration’sdrive to make tourism a major player in the state’s economy.

Udofia disclosed that the Oron Maritime Infrastructure will be inaugurated in December this year.

He said that this year’s Chrismas Carol will take place, 15 December, while a gospel concert will hold, 6 December.

Udofia declared that the executive order banning Ekpo Masquerades from public spaces was still in force, and asked for public understanding.
