Another drama in sight as Natasha Akpoti storms Senate today

•Yet to publish court ordered apologies

Nigerians are again expectant of another drama at the Senate, as suspended lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan threatens to attend today’s plenary.

A Federal High Court in Abuja recently disagreed with her six-month suspension but fined her N5 million for contempt of court over a Facebook post deemed to have violated an earlier court order.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was ordered to publish apologies in two national dailies and on her Facebook page within seven days.

But as at the time of fielding this report on Tuesday morning, Uduaghan was yet to comply.

Instead, she announced to her supporters that she would resume her legislative duties today.

The Senate, however, has vowed not to take any official action until it reviews the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court’s pronouncement.

Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman, Yemi Adaramodu, in a release on Monday, stated that the Senate would refrain from taking any steps that may prejudice its legal position, pending receipt and examination of the CTC.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension was sparked by a rowdy plenary where she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

Her subsequent lawsuit against the Senate led to the court’s ruling, which declared her suspension excessive and unconstitutional.
