A foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Edet Isong, has joined millions of Akwa Ibom People and Nigerians both at home and the diaspora in appreciating Gov Umo Eno for flagging off the massive infrastructure development works at the Oron Beach in Oron local government area.
The maritime project flagged off by the governor included steel shore protect, four jetties, a terminal, cold room and a warehouse, a 5500 square metre car park that will accommodate at least 200 cars, internal road network and a recreational centre that will attracts tourists with a 100 per cent security guarantee.
Isong who was reacting to the development in a chat with journalists during the flag off ceremony recently, said with work at 70 per cent completion of the construction of the passenger ferry to ply the busy Oron-Calabar Water Way, life will gradually return to the once lively coastal area that was the centre of attraction in the old Cross River State.
The jetty terminal, he also stated, “will reduce the incidence of death occasioned by unsafe boat trips, especially of students and other commuters on the water ways.
The Okete Okete Oro said the presence of a naval base in the area would improve security, as the issue of sea piracy was becoming a sore that was eating into the economic activities of the state.
On the ongoing construction of the Nsit Atai-Okobo Road, Isong commended the governor for his concern for the well being of Oron people, saying that he has lived to his campaign promise of making the area an integral part of the state through economic inclusiveness.
He averred that the road which serves as the most viable land link between Oron federal constituency and the state capital, apart from giving the area a sense of belonging, was the governor’s trump card for his re-election in 2027.
He conveyed the goodwill of the people to the governor, stressing that he has justified the glamour for a home breed governor during the campaign’s.
He also took time out to commend the governor for the construction of model schools and health centres across the state, noting investment in primary health care and primary education was a noble investment.
He equally added that the governor’s development focus, was people centric, hence the need for him to be celebrated.
Chief Isong as well used the opportunity to celebrate the member representing Oron federal constituency in the national assembly, Mr Martins Esin, for his quality representation pointing out that since assumption of office his impacts have been greatly felt both at the national assembly and at home.
He called on Oron people and the entire Akwa Ibom People to continue to support the governor as according to him, the Pastor Umo Eno was determined to leave the state better that he met it.
