Commissioner orders relocation of illegal motor parks in Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke Udo, has ordered the relocation of illegal motor parks in Uyo, to designated roadsides he wants them to be operating from.

In the directive issued 31 July 2025, those operating illegal loading and offloading of passengers by De Choice Mall on Ikot Ekpene Road have been directed to move from the main road to the space by Bea Arena fence.

The illegal motor park by Ikot Ekpene Road usually loaded and offloaded passengers plying Uyo-Ikot Ekpene and vice versa.

The commissioner has also ordered the relocation of the illegal motor park at the former AKBC Office, 205 Aka Road, to Aka Junction by Sacred Heart Catholic Church along Aka- Nung Udoe Road.

Despite the existence of formal motor parks built by the administration of Obong Victor Attah in Uyo metropolis, the Transport Commissioner has asked operators of the illegal motor parks along Nung Oku to station themselves where he feels convenient for them by the roadside of that route.

Obong Victor Attah had constructed five modern bus stations in Uyo metropolis for motorists plying inter-state and intra-state routes.

The bus stations constructed by Obong Attah are at:  Ikot Akpe, along Abak Road; Nung Oku, situated around the present Nung Oku roundabout; Itam (2) and Mbiabong Anyanya.

All these bus stations were deserted by motorists despite the availability of modern facilities provided by the state government in all of them. Instead of loading and offloading passengers in those motor parks, motorists preferred doing so by roadsides.

As those stations were wasting away, Governor Godswill Akpabio on coming into office, ordered that no illegal loading and unloading should be carried out by the roadsides, and that all transporters should move to the bus stations built by the previous administration.

But the order had long been flouted by motorists, although WatchmanPost has noticed a resurgent of life at the Mbiabong Anyanya bus station, but cannot say if this is true of the other ones.
