Edo State emerges overall winner of 2nd NDDC sports fiesta

The second edition of the NDDC sports fiesta, hosted in Edo State, has concluded with the host state amassing a total of 111 medals to outshine other participating states.
A breakdown of the final standings shows Edo State garnered 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze medals. Delta State followed in second place with 35 gold, 29 silver, and 34 bronze medals, while the defending champion, Bayelsa State, dropped to third place with 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals.
The medals were contested across 17 different sporting events, attracting participation from all nine states in the Niger Delta region. Over 3,000 athletes graced the competition.
At the closing ceremony, Comrade Philip Shaibu, Director General and CEO of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), commended Edo State for their performance and praised the NDDC for organizing an event that allows regional athletes to showcase their talents.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, Shaibu also encouraged the other participating states—Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia, Cross River, Ondo, and Imo—to build their competitive spirit ahead of the next edition.
