Gov Eno inaugurates AKSU Governing Council, confirms Akpan as VC
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, 25 February, inaugurated a seven-member Governing Council for Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), with Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Eno on the occasion also appointed the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, as the University’s Chancellor, and confirmed Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan as its substantive Vice Chancellor. He had been serving in the office in acting capacity.
​Inaugurating the Council at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah—commended Vice Chancellor Akpan for his “purposeful leadership.”
He specifically noted that his leadership has led to the full accreditation of the Faculty of Law and several other key programmes.
​The governor emphasised that the milestones were achieved through passionate collaboration with national regulatory and accreditation agencies.
He described AKSU as one of the most sought-after institutions in Nigeria and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising education as a pillar of the ARISE Agenda.
​Highlighting the government’s ongoing support, Governor Eno noted several key investments, including: ​contracts for the construction of internal roads at the main campus, Ikot Akpaden, and ​consistent payment of subventions and bursaries to students.
​Addressing the new leadership, Eno urged it to maintain zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social activities, reminding students that degrees are awarded based on both “learning and character,” encouraging them to focus on building a strong intellectual foundation.
​The governor concluded by wishing the new Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor, and the board members a successful tenure.
