A tragic incident occurred in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after a Keke (tricycle) rider reportedly attacked a young passenger with a hammer, seriously injuring him over a disagreement involving N50 change.
The victim, who is not a thief or troublemaker, was allegedly assaulted by the Keke rider after requesting his balance.
In response, the driver pulled out a heavy hammer from his tricycle and struck the passenger on the head, leaving him unconscious and severely wounded.
According to eyewitness report tracked by CARETAKER NEWS NOW, the attack caused serious damage to the mans skull, especially in the medulla oblongata area, which controls basic body functions.
The incident happened late at night, and the injured man was rushed to two hospitals before being referred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) around 11 p.m.
A Good Samaritan, Inemesit Umo-Udofia who helped transport the victim to UUTH recounted how the young man was gasping for air and urgently needed oxygen to stay alive.
With no cash in hand and the oxygen costing N19,000, the helper reached out to friends and supporters.
Immediate financial support was sent by Pastor Voiceubongabasi Udokang and Ms. Nyakno Ruth Emmanuel, who acted swiftly to save the man’s life.
The victim is now receiving treatment at UUTH and is gradually recovering, thanks to the efforts of hospital staff and those who supported his emergency care.
Meanwhile, the registration number of the Keke involved in the incident is said to have been marked down for tracking.
