Tension gripped residents of Hospital Road, Uyo, after a domestic misunderstanding reportedly turned bloody, leaving a 31-year-old woman with serious injuries and her landlord in police custody.
The suspect, identified as Akong Henry, was arrested by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command over the alleged attack on his tenant, Rachael, during a heated argument on March 31, 2026, at about 6:45 p.m.
Police sources said what began as a disagreement suddenly degenerated into violence when the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sharp object and descended on the woman.
The victim sustained deep cuts to her head and left arm, leading to heavy blood loss before help arrived.
Swift intervention by police operatives saved the situation as officers rushed the injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving urgent medical attention.
The suspect was immediately apprehended, while detectives launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation.
The incident has sparked concern among residents in the area, many of whom described the development as shocking and avoidable.
Reacting to the incident, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command condemned the alleged assault and warned residents against resorting to violence in settling disputes.
The Command urged members of the public to always embrace lawful and peaceful conflict resolution channels, stressing that violence often leads to tragic consequences.
Police authorities further reassured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while calling on the public to promptly report threats, suspicious activities and violent tendencies in their neighbourhoods.
