The member representing Okobo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Plus Bassey Pius Bassey, has listed out his legislative achievements for the past two years.
Hon. Bassey who enumerated nine bills, 24 constituency projects and various other oversight functions as his major programmes, reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful and people-centered representation as he presented his mid-term legislative report in Uyo.
Speaking during a press briefing attended by journalists, media aides, and other stakeholders, Hon. Bassey said his two-year stewardship in the 8th Assembly has been anchored on inclusivity, accountability, and service.
“My representation is service-driven. I have worked assiduously to address the needs and aspirations of my people. While it may not be perfect, it is sincere, inclusive, and purpose-driven,” he stated.

The lawmaker highlighted key legislative interventions and bills he has sponsored and co-sponsored, including the Bill to Regulate the Business of Scrap Metal Dealers and Similar Goods (HAB 367), currently before the House Committee on Environment after scaling second reading.
Others include the Agricultural Loans Amendment Law, designed to improve farmers’ access to credit, and the Cultural Heritage Preservation Law, aimed at safeguarding historical sites and promoting tourism.
The 24 constituency projects listed by the lawmaker reflect a strong commitment to education, youth empowerment, and community development.
Key achievements include the opening of a constituency office, the purchase of 200 UTME forms and payment of fees for 20 indigent students, and the provision of educational grants in partnership with local unions.
He said several schools benefited from infrastructural projects such as the construction and renovation of classroom blocks, assembly halls, ICT centres, and boreholes in Okopedi, Urue Ita, Nung Atai Eta, Ebighi Ube, and other communities.
Additionally, Bassey Bassey said he has distributed customised exercise books and educational materials were to 33 public primary schools through the “Back to School Project.”
Beyond education, the projects also focus on social welfare and economic empowerment with such initiatives as distribution of palliatives worth millions of naira, sponsorship of the Okobo Arise Youth Football Tournament, facilitation of employment opportunities for deserving indigenes, and construction of market stalls in Okopedi.
He as well listed the inauguration of, Okobo Youth Arise Movement, Christmas largesse for traditional rulers, women, and party officials, and the presentation of two exotic cars to constituents further highlight efforts to foster unity, development, and grassroots political engagement across Okobo Local Government Area.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Bassey also outlined other major oversight activities undertaken under his leadership.
These include oil spill remediation inspections in Eastern Obolo, ecological site assessments across the state, and flood control visits to affected areas in Uyo.
He further disclosed that the committee conducts monthly sanitation monitoring in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) to ensure environmental and public health standards are maintained.
Beyond legislative duties, Hon. Bassey emphasized his commitment to human capital development through empowerment programmes.
He announced plans to distribute business grants to women and youths, provide vocational tools to artisans, and present laptops to students before the end of the year.
“Empowerment should not just be about money but about providing tools for self-reliance,” he added.
The Okobo representative commended the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, for his developmental strides under the ARISE Agenda, describing him as a visionary leader whose inclusive governance has inspired lawmakers to do more for their constituencies.
Hon. Bassey assured that several developmental projects, powered by the state government are currently underway in Okobo, including the Nsit Atai–Okobo–Oron Road and the construction of a Government Model Primary School, which he said would enhance living standards and foster sustainable growth.
“His Excellency’s intervention in addressing the perennial infrastructural deficit in Okobo State Constituency is worthy of commendation. The ongoing construction of the Okobo–Nsit Atai Road, Okobo–Uya Oron Road, and the Model Primary School, Okobo, gives credence to the inclusive administration of the Governor,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, and fellow lawmakers for their cooperation and support.
The legislator donated laptops to four constituents—Mr. Anthony Jackson, Mr. Kingsley Anyin, Hon. Rex Enwieme, and Elder Edet Okpo —and promised to extend the gesture to others in due course.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, commended Hon. Bassey for his performance and urged him to sustain the tempo while ensuring the inclusion of journalists from Okobo in future empowerment initiatives.
The event was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Media, Comrade Amos Etuk, members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Press Corps, newspaper and online publishers, and other dignitaries.
