It seems there is more to come in the line of the unending crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and his Adamawa counterpart, Adamu Umaru Fintiri, have roundly rejected and condemned the decision to expel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and other key party members.
Governor Mutfwang in a Facebook post just hours after the announcement by Mr Bode George noted that the decision to expel the prominent party members was never discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee (NEC) prior to the announcement at the convention.
Mutfwang stressed that such actions would not solve the party’s problems but rather worsen internal divisions.
“At this crucial moment for our party, I believe pursuing expulsions is neither prudent nor constructive. What the PDP needs now is calm judgment, unity, and genuine reconciliation.
“The move to expel Barr. Nyesom Wike, HE Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and others was not discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum or presented to the NEC. It does not reflect my position or that of our leadership. Our strength lies in dialogue, inclusiveness, and collective engagement not further division”, Mutfwang said.
Mutfwang’s stance aligns with that of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who also distanced himself from the expulsion decision.
Fintiri emphasized that reconciliation is the only viable path to rebuilding the opposition party ahead of future elections.
Fintiri said, “I, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, wishes to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike from the PDP.
“I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into an unending crisis.”
Both governors have called on party leaders and stakeholders to prioritize healing old wounds and rebuilding trust within the party.
They stressed the importance of peace, stability, and progress within the PDP, urging members to work towards unity and cohesion.
The expulsion, which was announced at the PDP’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, cited alleged anti-party activities.
Other in the list of expulsion read by the Mr Bode George include Hon. Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner and Chief Dan Orbih.
