The immediate Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, SAN has cried out and called on Nigerians to rise and stop the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from using the EFCC to persecute him.
The former minister of justice, who is an aly of ex President Muhammadu Buhari, is facing trials for corruption and money laundering. He was alleged by the anti-corruption agency of re-looting the Sani Abacha’s loots and concealment of illegally acquired properties.
On Wednesday, the Federal High Court, Abuja granted him an interim bail, but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission immediately brought 16-count charge against him and his son.
In a statement by his spokesperson Mohammed Bello Doka, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria alleged that the commission is engaging in a vendetta.
He said, “This deliberate inaction is a further and damning confirmation of the EFCC’s vendetta, its blatant disregard for the rule of law, and its dangerous descent into tyranny and abuse of power.”
While echoing the claim made by Nasir El-Rufai and Atiku Abubakar that the Tinubu’s government is engaging in persecution and with hunt of political opponents, the former minister said that the #EFCC has abandoned its duty and has become a tool for political persecution.
The statement reads, “The Commission’s actions leave no doubt that it has abandoned its statutory mandate and allowed itself to be deployed as a tool of political persecution.”
He therefore called on Nigerians to speak up and stop the persecution. The statement concludes, “Nigerians of conscience to speak out against the dangerous precedent being set by the Commission’s actions.”
