Official: Natasha’s recall process hits brick wall

The recall process of the embattled Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has hit brick wall, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has said.

INEC made the declaration on Thursday, April 3, saying that the petition seeking to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has again failed to meet the constitutional requirement.

The statement officially shared by INEC on its X handle on Thursday noon, cited Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which outlines the conditions for recalling a lawmaker.

The commission stated that the petition did not fulfill the necessary criteria halting the recall process.

“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” INEC said.

As it stands, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is expected to resume her legislative duties at the expiration of the six-months’ suspension which commenced on 6th March, 2025.
