The Oron Union Women Wing International (OUWWI) is gearing up to host a landmark empowerment conference scheduled for October 21-23, 2025, at the Oron Union Civic Centre in Akwa Ibom State.
The three-day summit aims to unite, train, and empower women across the Oro Nation, focusing on economic growth and social inclusion.
Titled a “Catalyst for Economic Growth and Social Inclusion,” the conference will bring together entrepreneurs, policymakers, and development partners to discuss and explore opportunities for sustainable development.
The OUWWI International President, Mrs. Stella Kargbo, in a press briefing, highlighted the conference’s mission to create sustainable opportunities for women, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
“We are laying the foundation for long-term self-reliance through targeted programmes in capacity building and enterprise development,” Mrs. Kargbo stated.
The Union’s progress was evident in its thriving five-hectare cassava farm in Mbo LGA, which serves as a practical training ground for women to learn the entire value chain of cassava production.
The conference will feature a unity football match, product exhibition, and main conference sessions.
International Vice President I, Mrs. Alice Edeminam, emphasized the importance of empowering Oro women, who are renowned traders, artisans, and custodians of their rich heritage.
Also, Mrs. Kate Hensley, Director of Skills Acquisition and Central Planning Committee Chair, revealed that the event will kick off with a unity football match at the Oron Township Stadium on October 21st, followed by a product exhibition on October 22nd, showcasing local women’s ingenuity.
The main conference on October 23rd will provide a platform for women to fuse traditional knowledge with modern innovation, ensuring their leadership in the new economy.
The Union is seeking partnerships with government bodies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to scale its impact. Mrs. Kargbo urged potential supporters to invest in Oro women, stating that it would be an investment in the region’s overall prosperity.
