In a historic election held today, Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Methodist Church Cathedral of the Cross, Prof. Inyang Atting has emerged as the Pioneer Lay President of the Archdiocese of Oron.
The election, conducted by the Archbishop of Calabar Archdiocese, His Grace Most Rev. Chimezwe Nwamkpa, was witnessed by top dignitaries including the Archbishop of Uyo, His Grace Most Rev. John Koko Bassey, the Archbishop of Port Harcourt, His Grace Udofia, and Bishop Effiong Esedeke.
Prof. Atting, currently serving as the Lay President of Methodist Church Nigeria, Oyubia Diocese, won the election with an overwhelming majority, polling 47 votes out of 53, after the Lay President of Ebughu Diocese, Sir Ita Onukak declined nomination.
Notably, he was elected in absentia, demonstrating the confidence and trust the electorate has in his leadership.
