Some pastors threatening me – Gov Eno
Barely two years in office, it has emerged that some pastors in Akwa Ibom State have fallen out with their fellow cleric and governor of the State, Pastor Umo Eno.
The governor himself made this known, Sunday, 29 January, 2025, during the year’s Thanksgiving Service of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held in his hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Eno revealed that some pastors have written to him claiming that they prayed him into office, but since, according to them, he has refused to recognise them, they will pray him out of office.
Sounding defiant, Eno said that he would take up the matter with the Christian leadership in the State, and asked members of The Apostolic Church, venue of the Service, to keep praying for him and his administration.
Apparently to disprove that the threatening clerics prayed him into office, Enọ disclosed that when he was a young boy growing up in Lagos, a six-year girl had prophesied that he would be governor later in life, a prophecy he dismissed with the wave of the hand since he could not fathom how that was possible.
The governor added that in an another instance, still in Lagos, during a prayer meeting he attended with his mother, another prophecy came out that he would be governor some day.
He revealed that on hearing this, he left his Bible on the church pew and told his mother that he was pressed and needed to go out and ease himself, but that was only a pretext to leave for home.
He added that when the mother returned home and asked why he left the church programme prematurely, he told her that he did so because the prophecy sounded too unbelievable for one who could barely take care of himself, and so he had to extract himself from the venue. He said the mother told him that the prophecy would come true at the right time.
Pastor Enọ did not say if his addressing himself as ‘governor’ when he when running his hospitality business later in life, long before he became governor of the state, had anything to do with the prophecies
