A University of Uyo graduand, Miss Edidiong Atainyang, has made waves in academic circles with an outstanding achievement, bagging a first-class honours degree with a remarkable cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.74 in rare discipline of English Education.
In a post made on her Facebook handle on Monday, September 29, Edidiong Atainyang, while displaying her statement of results, attributes her success to a combination of hard work, resilience, and the unwavering support of her family, lecturers, friends, and well-wishers.
In a heartfelt account of her academic journey, the graduand revealed that her path to success was not without its challenges. She recounted days of all-night study sessions, moments of self-doubt, and times when she felt like giving up.
Edidiong, who recently made news for emerging the best graduating student, during the graduation ceremony of Cohort 11 of the Akan-David Institute of Public Speaking, expressed profound gratitude to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Etim Atainyang, and her siblings, who were her rock throughout her academic journey.
She also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of her lecturers, including Prof. Friday Okon, Prof. Ima Emmanuel, and Dr. Bernard Dickson, among others, who not only imparted knowledge but also pushed her to excel.
She as well said her achievement was possible through the support of various associations, including the Oro Nation Leadership Roundtable (OLR), Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA Inc., and the Akwa Ibom State Government (AKSG), which provided financial assistance through scholarships.
To share her story and inspire others, the graduand has authored a book titled “My First Class Journey: A Blueprint for Academic Excellence,” which serves as a practical guide for students aspiring to achieve academic excellence.
With her remarkable achievement, she hopes to motivate others to strive for greatness and not settle for less.
Meanwhile this academic achievement has sparked widespread joy and admiration among peers and lecturers.
Prof. Friday Okon, one of her lecturers, congratulated her, saying, “Congratulations, my dear daughter. You deserve what you laboured for!”
Another lecturer, Prof. Garvey Ufot, expressed his confidence in Edidiong’s abilities, stating that her achievement was expected. “Yessssssss! This was expected as sure as night turns to day, and as sure as the sun shines. You would have offended me if it had turned out differently. CONGRATULATIONS, Edidiong.”
Peers and friends also showered Edidiong with praises and congratulations. Nyetiene-Obong Udo described her as “exceptional and intentional” in all she does, while Evelyn Akpan, a fellow grammarian, admired Edidiong’s ability to excel in challenging courses, saying, “You are truly admirable and a shining star.”
Blessing Lenu, another friend, celebrated Edidiong’s achievement, calling her “Eddy Stylistics” and expressing pride in her success.
