We are committed to restoring Oron maritime prowess – Gov Eno 

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno says his administration is committed to restoring boisterous commercial activities in Oron to reclaim its receded ancient natural position as a leading maritime economic power house in the State.

Governor Eno gave the assurance yesterday (January 27, 2026), while fielding questions from Government House correspondents after carrying out an inspection of the ongoing construction of Oron marine terminal, shore protection, jetty, warehouse and recreational facility project site in the ancient coastal city.

Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the marine terminal with modern facilities to enhance the economic potential of the area, and restore full commercial activities that would boost the economy of the State.

“Where we are now is the terminal building where passengers will come, buy their tickets and board the boat to Calabar.

“Beyond that marine transportation, I want commercial activities to be back here so that our fishermen can practise their trade. We have cold room facility, dry storage facility and fish drying facility so that that business can thrive. We have to make this place very conducive and lucrative,” he stated.

Assessing the progress of the project, Eno commended the project contractor, MK Construction Ltd, for the speedy realisation of the vision, stating that he visited of the project site to listen to the contractor, and match the architectural design with the physical reality on ground to determine the next steps to take.

He thanked the Oron people for their cooperation and support for the contractor, describing the project as a treasurable gift to the people, charging them to protect and take its ownership.

“Thank you so much for cooperating with the contractor. This project is for our people here. It is our gift to the Oron people. You know that you are the ones to protect this facility because it is your own,” Eno said.
