100-Day Scorecard: Itu Legislative Council Passes Vote of Confidence on Chairman

In a defining moment for governance in Itu Local Government Area, the 8th Itu Legislative Council on Wednesday passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, recognising his stellar achievements in his first 100 days in office.

The Deputy Leader, Hon. Samuel Inyang, who sponsored the Motion passionately eulogised the Chairman for his outstanding leadership and remarkable results in such a short period.

Hon. Inyang, while moving the motion, lauded Nkutt’s visionary approach to governance, describing his tenure thus far as a period of “determined, tireless, and focused leadership.”

He highlighted the Chairman’s impressive ability to translate campaign promises into tangible actions that have already begun to uplift Itu.

He noted that, under his leadership, Nkutt has spearheaded a series of transformative projects, setting a new benchmark for governance in the local government area.

The motion outlined significant achievements in several key sectors, including infrastructural development, healthcare, education, youth and sports, and community welfare.

Among the most notable projects are the ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art 22-unit administrative block, the renovation of legislative offices, and the remodelling of the local government fence.

Additionally, the installation of a solar lighting system at the local government secretariat was commended as a progressive initiative to enhance the beauty and functionality of the council premises.

Furthermore, Hon. Inyang praised Nkutt’s commitment to road infrastructure, with the grading of internal roads across all 11 wards in Itu, bringing the much-needed relief to the local populace.

Inyang also highlighted the Chairman’s financial prudence, particularly in meeting legislative entitlements, such as the timely payment of furniture allowances, which he said was a testament to the Chairman’s effective management of resources.

The motion was seconded by the Councillor representing Mbiabo/Ayadehe Ward 3, Hon. Warrior Effiong, who also noted that the Executive Chairman of Itu, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, came prepared to serve the people of Itu, as demonstrated by his outstanding performance within the first 100 days in office.

The Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Godswill David, also took time to commend the Executive Chairman for his sterling performance within such a short period in office.

He emphasised that, with such visionary leadership, the people of Itu would continue to enjoy the full dividends of democracy.

Hon. David praised Nkutt’s transformative approach to governance and reaffirmed that his leadership would continue to elevate Itu Local Government to new heights.

Following these commendations, the motion was put to a voice vote, and all 11 councillors in attendance resoundingly supported the motion, endorsing the Chairman’s leadership.

The Leader, Hon. Godswill David, who presided over the plenary session, directed the Clerk to formally communicate the resolution of the House to the Executive Chairman.

In an equally important development, the Legislative Council also received the list of nominees for Supervisors and Special Advisers forwarded by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ubong Nkutt.

The list, which was read by the Clerk, was accompanied by a letter from the Chairman citing Section 28, Subsection 1E of the Local Government Administration Law 2017 (as amended), to support his action in sending the list for screening and confirmation by the 8th Legislative Council.

The nominees for the positions of Supervisors are: Anthony Akan Bassey, Essienanwan Edet Akpan Inyang, Otobong Etim Usanga, Unyime Joseph Clement, Aniekan Moses Essah, Bassey Ntiedo Bassey, Idongesit Archibong Philip, and Elder Emmanuel Abel. The nominees for the positions of Special Advisers are: Offonime Ndem, Aniekan U. Edet, and Effiong Edet Nnasia.

The motion for the acceptance of the list of nominees was moved by Councillor representing West Itam 3, Ward 11, Hon. Oduduabasi John, and seconded by Councillor representing East Itam 3, Ward 6, Hon. Richard Mbuk.

The list of nominees was referred to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges for screening.

The committee was tasked with reporting back to the Legislative Council on Thursday for further legislative action.
