Obong Nsima Ekere, former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has predicted that Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State will fly the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag and win a landslide victory in the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Sunday programme, Ekere dismissed concerns over the resignation of Commissioner Ini Ememobong, saying it’s being blown out of proportion.
Obong Ekere who was the APC gubernatorial candidate during the 2019 election, praised Governor Eno’s wide acceptability in the state, highlighting Governor Eno’s achievements in entrenching total peace and unity in the state.
He noted that even when he was in the PDP, the APC and other political parties, including the Interparty Advisory Council (IPAC), had endorsed him for a second term.
“Come to Akwa Ibom State and see what is happening. The state is aligned to the ARISE Agenda of his administration,” Ekere said.
He dismissed the speculation that Nigeria was sliding into a one-party state, saying Nigerians were rather aligning with the APC due to the performance of President Bola Tinubu.
“The beauty of democracy is that it’s a game of numbers. Political parties are vehicles used to attain political power, so long as you use the political power for the benefit of the people who gave you the power.”
