A group, Uboro Consultative Assembly, has appealed to Gov Umo Eno to intervene in the zoning arrangements in Udung Uko Local Government Area to ensure equity and peace.
“We are appealing to His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to prevail upon stakeholders in Udung Uko LGA, especially Ward 4, to abide by the zoning arrangements,” said Mr Effiong Edet, Chairman of Uboro Consultative Assembly.
The group stated that since the creation of Udung Uko LGA in 1996, no person from Uboro Isong Inyang Ward 6, has held the position of chairman or State House of Assembly member, describing it as “injustice taken to the extreme.”
Edet added, “It is our turn to produce the chairman, and we urge Governor Umo Eno to prevail on Ward 4 and other communities that have had their turn to shelve their ambitions and allow us to have a fair share of the political power.”
The group warned that the incumbent transition chairman’s alleged plan to contest out of turn the 2024 LG polls could scuttle the zoning principle, leading to a breakdown of peace in the area.
“We believe that His Excellency’s intervention will help maintain the peace and ensure that the zoning principle is respected,” added Effiong Effiong Okpo, Secretary of the Assembly.
