Arrest Gumi now – Nigerians urges FG

Outrage is spreading like wild fire across the country this Friday morning of December 26, as Nigerians are demanding the immediate arrest of controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, following his call on the Federal Government to halt all military cooperation with the United States.

The calls came in the wake of recent airstrike operations in Sokoto State that reportedly killed several bandits.

Gumi, reacting to the development, warned that the involvement of the United States in Nigeria’s security operations could worsen the country’s insecurity and undermine its national sovereignty.

In his remarks, the cleric urged the Federal Government to immediately suspend any form of military collaboration with the US, arguing that foreign interference would escalate violence rather than resolve it.

However, many Nigerians strongly disagreed with his position, accusing him of consistently making statements that appear sympathetic to armed groups terrorising communities across the North-West and other parts of the country.

On social media and public forums, citizens called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against Gumi, insisting that his comments were reckless and capable of demoralising security forces battling banditry and terrorism.

“Enough is enough. If anyone is openly discouraging efforts to defeat bandits, they should be questioned and arrested,” one social media user wrote.

Others urged the government not to be distracted, stressing that any support, local or international, that helps eliminate criminal elements should be sustained.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government has not issued an official response to Gumi’s comments or the growing calls for his arrest.
