NDDC Sports: Akwa Ibom contingent departs Uyo for Edo State

The Akwa Ibom contingent for the 2nd edition of the NDDC Sports Fiesta has departed Uyo for Edo State, fueled by enthusiasm to represent the state with pride.

A total of 276 athletes, who successfully scaled the screening exercise at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, are set to compete in 16 different sports.

The delegation departed from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nsit Atai LGA, accompanied by 46 officials, including sports directors, stakeholders, and media personnel.

Addressing the team on behalf of Governor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, charged the athletes to surpass their previous 6th-place finish.

He emphasised that discipline and strict adherence to the rules must remain their watchwords throughout the week-long event.

The Governor noted that while the first outing provided a foundation, the state expects a stronger performance this year.

He urged the athletes to avoid distractions and maintain absolute focus, adding that he looks forward to welcoming them home with an impressive medal haul.

He further reassured the contingent of the government’s full support and promised rewards for those who bring glory to the state.
