FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets host Malawi in Abuja

​Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, are set to face their Malawian counterparts on 2nd May 2026, in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The crucial encounter will take place in Abuja.

​The team is currently in high spirits, with players expressing strong optimism about securing a decisive victory at home.

Following the Abuja clash, the Falconets will travel to Lilongwe for the return leg on 9 May.

​The journey so far

​The Falconets reached the final qualifying stage after a hard-fought 3-1 aggregate victory over Senegal. That series saw Nigeria bounce back from a narrow 0-1 home loss to claim a dominant 2-1 win away.

Prior to the Senegal matchup, the Nigerian side showcased their clinical form by demolishing Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate.

​Head Coach Moses Aduku believes his squad has what it takes to secure a World Cup ticket. He noted that the players are currently undergoing intensive training to sharpen their tactics and fitness ahead of the doubleheader.

​”Nigeria will celebrate a World Cup ticket after these two matches against Malawi,” Aduku stated. “The girls are working hard, and we are focused on the goal.”

​The tactician also called on football fans across the country to support the team with prayers and encouragement as they enter this final hurdle.
