Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, are set to face their Malawian counterparts on 2nd May 2026, in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The crucial encounter will take place in Abuja.
The team is currently in high spirits, with players expressing strong optimism about securing a decisive victory at home.
Following the Abuja clash, the Falconets will travel to Lilongwe for the return leg on 9 May.
The journey so far
The Falconets reached the final qualifying stage after a hard-fought 3-1 aggregate victory over Senegal. That series saw Nigeria bounce back from a narrow 0-1 home loss to claim a dominant 2-1 win away.
Prior to the Senegal matchup, the Nigerian side showcased their clinical form by demolishing Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate.
Head Coach Moses Aduku believes his squad has what it takes to secure a World Cup ticket. He noted that the players are currently undergoing intensive training to sharpen their tactics and fitness ahead of the doubleheader.
”Nigeria will celebrate a World Cup ticket after these two matches against Malawi,” Aduku stated. “The girls are working hard, and we are focused on the goal.”
The tactician also called on football fans across the country to support the team with prayers and encouragement as they enter this final hurdle.
