We are committed to independent, free media – Comfort 95.1 FM
One of the leading FM radio stations in Akwa Ibom State, Comfort 95.1 FM, has restated its commitment to independent and free media.
Reacting to what the station called “sensational social media reports” calculated to impugn its reputation, its management stated, “We are stating categorically that as a corporate organisation, we have lived up to our responsibilities towards our staff and stakeholders, paying all statutory dues that we are meant to, at the appropriate time.”
In a statement issued in Uyo, dated 1st July, 2026, the Executive Managing Consultant (EMC) of the establishment, Mr. Samuel Enoh Akpan, insisted that the radio station had “over the past nine years kept the statutory mandate of any media organisation, by ensuring we remain bold and fearless, with all our conversations anchored on editorial independence.”
Although the statement did not indicate any specific cases of social media misrepresentation of the station, it was apparent that there were cases of it being accused of having issues with editorial independence and staff welfare.
“The station is run independent of any outside influence. The management team and staff are engaged on pure professional basis.
“Our editorial and managerial policies are completely independent and cannot be faulted because they are guided by facts, fairness, justice and equity”, the statement asserted.
On the philosophical roots of the establishment, the statement noted, “Comfort 95.1 FM was built on the belief that communities deserve media that report without fear or favour. In an era of competing interests, the station maintains that independent journalism is non-negotiable for accountability, transparency, and public trust. The daily administration of the station is solely anchored by the EMC, with assistance from all the Heads of Department.”
It added, “We are on record as one of the few broadcasting organisations in Nigeria that have no issue with both the old and current staff in terms of settling all genuine obligations based on available resources without any fear or favour.”
The release also noted, “Comfort 95.1 Fm is the only station in Nigeria” that has won a place in the Guiness World Record (GWR) “through one of its foremost presenters, George Iniabasi Essien (Mighty George).”
Concluding, the organisation pleaded, “We, therefore, want to appeal to all well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to desist from [associating] the station with any issue (sic) bothering on local or national politics as the station was not formed for political partisanship.”
