Unical Class of 1986 reunion holds in Uyo today

•Marks 40th anniversary

The University of Calabar Class of 1986 will convene for its 2026 reunion in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from today, Thursday, July 9, to Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Dr. Sunday Antai, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, described the reunion as a significant milestone in the class’s history.

“This gathering represents a watershed moment, 40 years after our graduation from the University of Calabar. The number 40 holds profound spiritual and historical significance across cultures and faiths,” Dr. Antai stated.

He cited several examples: the Israelites’ 40 years in the wilderness before entering the Promised Land; Moses’ 40 days on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments; Jesus Christ’s 40-day fast prior to commencing His public ministry; and the 40 days of fasting observed during Ramadan in the Islamic calendar.

“Forty years on, we are entering a new phase of life, transitioning from the demands of raising young families to a period of reflection, reconnection, and purposeful engagement.

“As the adage states, ‘A fool at 40 is a fool forever.’ This is a time to consolidate, not to be distracted. It is also an opportunity to reunite with colleagues, give thanks for God’s faithfulness, and remember those members of our class who are deceased.”
