Abia tops 10 best performing states in 2026 NECO exams
With a success rating of 81.78 per cent, South East Abia State has emerged the best-performing state in the 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) results.
Ebonyi State, another South East state, came a close second with 81.03 per cent, while Ekiti State, South West, came third with 77.68 per cent, reports The Nation.
According to NECO’s figures, nine states in the top 10 class recorded performance rates above 73 per cent. The other states in that class are Delta, Osun, Lagos, Oyo, Imo, Bayelsa and Ogun.
Going by geopolitical zonal configuration, three of the 10 are in the South-East, two in the South-South, and the five remaining states are in the South West.

3. Ekiti — 77.68%
4. Delta — 75.17%
5. Osun — 74.31%
6. Lagos — 74.15%
7. Oyo — 74.12%
8. Imo — 74.10%
9. Bayelsa — 73.92%
10. Ogun — 73.34%
The percentages show the performance standing of each state in the said examination, as revealed in NECO’s official document.
The figures show that the gap between first position Abia State and second placed Ebonyi State is only 0.75 percentage point.
The gap between highest-ranked Abia State, and 10th-ranked State, Ogun, is 8.44 percentage points.
