President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, says the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will be enough to earn the support of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio made the assertion while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by its chairman, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
A release endorsed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Jackson Udom, cites Senator Akpabio that the Tinubu administration inherited an economy in distress, with several states struggling to pay workers’ salaries and pensions.
He, however, said the situation had improved significantly under the present administration, attributing the change to what he described as the President’s innovative approach to economic management.
Akpabio expressed confidence that the administration would have sufficient achievements to present to Nigerians during the 2027 campaigns.
He listed the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy among areas where he said the government had recorded notable progress.
The Senate President also defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly, saying the Senate under his leadership had made significant contributions to national development through legislation and collaboration with the executive.
He cited the establishment of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFund, as one of the initiatives aimed at easing the financial burden of education on Nigerian families.
Akpabio further urged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress who may not return to the Senate in 2027 to remain committed to the party and the success of the Tinubu administration.
Earlier, Senator Dandutse Mohammed said the committee was in Akwa Ibom State to undertake sensitisation and oversight activities on projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
He commended the Senate leadership for supporting legislation he said would contribute to the development of education and the country at large.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, Akpabio maintains that the achievements of the Tinubu administration, rather than political rhetoric, will provide the basis for the APC’s campaign and its bid to secure a second term for the President.
