A group known as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Network has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mallam Mele Kyari over the successful reopening of the Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries.
A statement endorsed by the director-general of the Network, Otuekong Iniobong John, said the restoration of the refineries has underscored President Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s oil refining capacity.
The statement dated December 31, 2024, said the milestone achievement of the Warri Refinery follows the restart of the Port Harcourt Refinery in November, demonstrating President Tinubu’s leadership and his administration’s comprehensive plan to ensure energy efficiency and security.
The statement reads, “For over 40 years, Nigeria’s refineries had been dormant, with billions of naira spent on maintenance while trillions were expended on fuel imports. Many had lost hope, and some even advocated for privatization.
“However, President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda has proven skeptics wrong, demonstrating his determination to restore Nigeria’s refineries to their former glory.”
Saying that the Warri Refinery was expected to produce 125,000 barrels per day at 60% capacity, leading to a significant reduction in the prices of petroleum products, the Network further said, “This, in turn, will have a positive ripple effect on the cost of living in the country, with lower fuel prices expected to decrease transportation costs, food prices, and other essential commodities.
The APC Media Network commended Mele Kyari and his team at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for their hard work in restoring Nigeria’s national pride and making the country a hub for crude oil refining in Africa.
“We urge Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s renewed agenda, which promises a brighter future for all.
“By 2031, when President Tinubu completes his second term, we are confident that Nigerians will be proud of the progress made under his leadership”, the statement concluded.
