Soyinka to storm Akwa Ibom for World Heritage Day Saturday

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, is set to headline the 2026 World Heritage Day celebration in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday, April 18, drawing widespread attention to the state’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.

The event, themed “Akwa Ibom Heritage Alive,” will showcase the state’s rich cultural identity through a series of vibrant activities designed to promote its status as a key heritage tourism destination in Nigeria.

Governor Umo Eno will attend as Special Guest of Honour, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to advancing cultural development and tourism.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, described the 2026 edition as an improvement on previous celebrations, promising a colourful display of traditional attire, performances, and cultural exhibitions that reflect the uniqueness of Akwa Ibom’s heritage.

The event will also feature the presentation of prizes to winners of the Akwa Ibom Heritage Quiz Competition for students of tertiary institutions across the state.

Members of the public have been encouraged to attend and take part in what is expected to be a memorable and enriching cultural celebration at the Tropicana Event Centre, UdoUdoma Avenue, Uyo, from 10:00AM.
