I want to use this opportunity to welcome the chairmen of all the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State on board.
I equally want to remind them that now that they are at the helms of affairs of their respective local governments they have a great task of ensuring that they serve to the best of their ability to bring governance nearer to the people.
They should realise that they are not there for only self aggrandisements but rather to satisfy the yearnings of the people who voted them to power.
One of such essential duties which they have to do is providing access roads to the people.
It is now the dry season and interior roads are now open for grading. It is therefore their duties to ensure that roads are graded to provide access, particularly to the local farmers to bring their food to sell to the masses.
It is even better now that the federal allocation goes straight into their council. They should therefore ensure an effective and prudent use of the allocations to ensure that they are not found wanting in road grading as well as the provision of other important facilities.
It want to advise that they should eschew extravagant expenditure on frivolous things that would not contribute to the development of their local government area..
They should forget about the ideas of living in hotels in Uyo to squander their resources but rather choose to live with those they governed to f

Beyond welcoming them on board is the onerous task ahead of them. Most of them, apparently because of how they emerged, know little and care little about what their responsibilities are. They should go and read the constitution to know what they are there for. It is imperative that they carry out their mandate if the local government areas are to be centres of development. State governors and socalled godfathers should stop their unnecessary meddlesomeness in the affairs of the Councils. The operators of the system should sit up and look beyond what they can take out as perks from the Councils.
