5,290 beneficiaries get lifeline at EMOIMEE Mbo free medical workshop

The free medical workshop sponsored by the NNPC/SEPLAT Joint Venture EMOIMEE Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) is recording massive impact in Mbo communities of Akwa Ibom State, with no fewer than 5,290 persons already attended to.

The beneficiaries, drawn mostly from the host communities and beyond, have received free medical solutions to various health challenges under the ongoing workshop being implemented by Global Hands Medical Foundation (GHMF).

Giving a breakdown of the intervention at the close of work in Effiat on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Chief Medical Consultant for GHMF, Dr. Titus Antai, said the foundation has so far carried out 270 general surgeries, 128 eye surgeries, 390 dental procedures, 2,345 laboratory diagnostic tests, issued 2,100 reading glasses, and made 57 referrals for advanced care.

Dr. Antai explained that the general surgeries covered hernia repair (Herniorrhaphy), appendectomy, lipoma excision, fibroid removal (myomectomy) and breast lump excision.

He added that under eye care, the team handled cataract, pterygium and chalazion surgeries, while dental care included tooth extraction, incision, drainage of dental abscess, dental scaling and polishing.

In her remarks, the Chief Medical Director of GHMF, Dr. Katherine Ntekim, said the programme was designed to cater to the health needs of vulnerable people in the community.

According to her, “It may appear that we’re only doing this for Mbo people, but I can assure you that many people come from other Local Government Areas to benefit from this exercise.

“We are grateful to our sponsors, EMOIMEE HCDT Mbo for this huge investment, and we pray this programme will bring succour to the underprivileged persons.”

The annual free medical workshop is a health intervention programme for host communities in Mbo local government area.
