Akpabio leads Nigeria’s delegation to 153rd IPU assembly in Tanzania

President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has led Nigeria’s delegation to the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), taking place in Arusha, Tanzania, from October 4 to 9, 2026.

The Assembly brings together parliamentarians from across the world to strengthen international parliamentary cooperation and advance discussions on good governance, inclusive development and the empowerment of communities.

Themed, “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all,” the Assembly provides a platform for lawmakers to exchange ideas on deepening public trust in democratic institutions, expanding opportunities and ensuring that no community is left behind.

Akpabio’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and constructive engagement with the international parliamentary community.

The Nigerian delegation is expected to use the Assembly to build strategic partnerships, share Nigeria’s perspectives on global and developmental issues, and advance the country’s national interests on the international stage.
