Senator Ita Enang has praised Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, for his tireless efforts in developing Akwa Ibom State.
Responding to callers during a “Talk Radio” show on Inspiration FM, Uyo, Ita Enang said Senator Akpabio has been instrumental to various federal projects in the state, including the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Obiokpa and a tertiary institution for Medical Sciences in Essien Udim.
These projects, Enang noted, demonstrate Akpabio’s commitment to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State.
“The Senate President is working for the interest of all Akwa Ibom people,” Enang stated, noting that his efforts have also led to the conversion of the Police Academy in Ukana to a university and the establishment of a Federal Medical Institute in Mkpat Enin to train medical doctors.
He observed that Akpabio’s development initiatives extend beyond education, as evident in his recent commissioning of 12 classroom blocks in over 30 primary and secondary schools across the senatorial district.
Commending Gov Umo Eno on his courageous move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), together with all his cabinet members, council chairmen and all state and federal legislators, Enang opined that Eno was attracted to the APC because it was not engrossed in leadership crisis like that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political gatherings in the nation.
“APC does not have any issues. Right now, the President of the Senate is competently leading the party in Akwa Ibom State. President Tinubu is leading the party at the national level. There is no issue whatsoever in the party. That is why all other political parties are descending into our party to enjoy the peace and progress that is entrenched therein.”
Enang also explained the distinction between Gov Eno and his predecessor Udom Emmanuel, which was why he constantly criticised the former, but cannot do same to the present.
“I love Umo Eno’s leadership style. He is progressive in nature. His style shows that he was a progressive leader only running on the platform of the PDP. His leadership style is clearly a departure from that of his predecessor who was behaving as Soul in the Bible, whom the spirit of God departed from. So, a man who is progressive and who knows that leadership is about the welfare of the people can’t attract my criticism.
“I only criticised Udom Emmanuel because of his poor leadership. If Pastor Umo Eno is not moving in the poor trajectory of his master, then why should I criticise him?
“I want to say that accountability is a question of the political party. The governor or president is not your boss. He is your servant and you are the boss because you elected him. Remember that I published “Ediyarade Udom Book 1 to 4”. At that time, people didn’t know that they could just google the Federal Ministry of Finance to understand the funds that have come to the state.
“Transparency is a policy of the APC. I believe that as Gov Umo Eno joins us, he will show such transparency in the affairs of the state.”
Enang however assured the foundation members of the APC, who had built the party over time to be calm, and receive the new members with open arm, as their place in the party would not be taken.
He said, “No matter how fully occupied the church is, the seat of the preacher and the seat of the general overseer can’t be taken. This is why I call on all the members of the APC who were in the party until yesterday, bearing all the trauma and the violence in previous electioneering years, to be patient, stay put and remain supportive of Gov Umo Eno, because their place in the party is settled.”
