Uyo Senatorial District NDC upbeat over 2027 polls, downplays court ruling

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) leader in Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District, Ime Unaowo Nta, has expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.

He described the recent Lokoja Federal High Court ruling which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the party, as a mere distraction orchestrated by political opponents.

Speaking with journalists shortly after a press conference organised by the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the party in Uyo, the former Deputy Comptroller of Immigration said that the NDC is the hope of ordinary Nigerians for purposeful leadership and genuine democratic governance.

According to the former Immigration boss, no amount of intimidation, political pressure, or legal distractions will derail the party’s determination to provide a credible alternative for Nigerians.

He noted that the recent court ruling has only drawn more public attention to the NDC, thereby increasing its visibility and popularity across the country.

He urged party faithful across the state to remain focused, united, and committed to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that unity and hard work remain the keys to electoral success.

Commenting on the court ruling concerning the party’s delisting from the INEC portal, Nta described the development as an attempt to weaken the opposition, submitting that such actions are unhealthy for the growth and sustainability of democracy.

“The beauty of democracy lies in providing every political party wa level playing field to freely canvass support and compete for power without intimidation or suppression. Unfortunately, in Nigeria today, opposition parties are often subjected to undue pressure and hostility. This is not in the best interest of our democracy,” he stated.

The leader commended the aspirants contesting on the platform of the NDC for demonstrating maturity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals.

He also applauded the national leadership of the party under Senator Seriake Dickson for promoting internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness, which, according to him, have eliminated factional crises within the party.

Nta disclosed that the NDC has continued to witness an influx of politicians and supporters from other political parties who are identifying with its vision of accountable leadership, equity, and people-oriented governance.

He noted that the growing wave of defections is a clear indication that Nigerians are searching for a credible political platform capable of addressing the nation’s numerous challenges.

He added that consultations and alignments are ongoing across the country, with many political stakeholders expressing readiness to join the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the party’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent leadership has made it increasingly attractive to politicians and professionals seeking a platform built on integrity and justice.

Nta assured that the NDC would continue to welcome new members into its fold, regardless of their previous political affiliations, provided they are committed to the party’s constitution, discipline, and collective vision of building a more prosperous, united, and democratic Nigeria.

He maintained that the increasing migration into the party is a strong indication that the NDC is steadily gaining national acceptance and is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the 2027 general elections
