Police arrest armed robbery suspects in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorizing Ikot Abasi village and its environs.

The arrest was made on July 1, 2024, at about 02:00hrs, and the suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, the suspects – John Okon Anta, Michael Osudua, and Inyene Joseph Edet – attacked and robbed a man at gunpoint, carting away his QLINK motorcycle, phones, and power bank charger.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had earlier robbed two houses at Afaha Ikot Abasi Village, stealing cell phones and other valuable items.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, has reiterated the command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements, saying, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is unwavering in its commitment to make Akwa Ibom safe for all.”

The CP appreciated the public’s support and urged anyone with information leading to the arrest of the fleeing suspects to call the command’s emergency lines or report to the nearest police station.

One locally made pistol was recovered from the suspects, and efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.

“The command will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that criminal elements are brought to book,” CP Ayilara assured.
